Business Operations Associate, India Remote (India) | Full-Time
Also searched as: BizOps Associate, Operations Analyst, Process Analyst, Business Analyst, Business Process Associate
When a process is slow, manual, or quietly leaking margin, do you want to get in and rebuild it yourself? On a typical day you might map a slow process with the team that runs it in the morning, model the cost to serve a student for one program in a spreadsheet after lunch, and hand a rebuilt process and its documentation to its new owner before the end of day.
About Contour
We started in 2020 with a handful of students and a belief that great education should not be out of reach. Today we operate across three brands with 8,000+ students and 425+ team members: roughly 100 in India and 325 onshore in Australia. The India team runs publishing, student experience, CRM and technology, operations, and people and culture.
Every time Contour doubles, the processes that ran the smaller version start to cost us: in margin, in hours, in quality. Someone has to keep rebuilding them on the ground. This is one of those roles.
About This Role
As the India-based partner to Contour's business operations lead, you are responsible for identifying operational inefficiencies and executing end-to-end process redesigns. This is a hands-on role. You will map current workflows, establish performance baselines, engineer process improvements, and manage the transition to new owners to ensure long-term stability.
Your scope includes the full build lifecycle, including analysis, metrics, and implementation. While the Business Operations lead defines strategic priorities and manages cross-functional alignment with our onshore and COO teams, you own the execution and the tangible results.
You will be the foundational operator for this function in India. Success in this role requires a measure-first methodology, ensuring every project is backed by data, and a focus on sustainability, building processes that operate independently after handoff.
What You Will Do
Identify operational bottlenecks: Audit support, publishing, and operations workflows to isolate processes that are manual, redundant, or failing under high volume.
Analyze and re-engineer processes: Map current workflows, establish performance baselines, redesign for efficiency, and manage implementation until metrics improve and stabilize.
Model unit economics: Quantify the cost to serve a student per program and proactively monitor overhead to prevent margin erosion.
Leverage automation: Evaluate and implement automation tools where appropriate, while exercising the discipline to maintain manual processes when that is the more efficient choice.
Ensure process sustainability: Create clear documentation, designate ownership, and provide training to ensure rebuilt processes are sustainable and do not regress.
Maintain performance visibility: Track two or three active re-engineering projects with clear baseline data, projected outcomes, and completion timelines for executive review.
If a better tool exists for something we run by hand, make the case and we will back it.
Requirements
What You Need
Operational expertise: 3 to 5 years of experience in business operations, process improvement, or operational analysis with a record of driving measurable change.
Process mapping proficiency: Ability to model cost and volume dynamics on a whiteboard or in a spreadsheet without requiring oversight.
Technical adaptability: Demonstrated ability to build and deploy automations that others rely on, balanced by the judgment to know when to leave a process manual.
Metrics-driven mindset: Proven ability to establish performance baselines prior to intervention and ensure results are sustained post-implementation.
Strong communication skills: Ability to produce clear, actionable documentation that enables team members to execute processes independently.
Cross-timezone collaboration: Comfort working across India business hours with regular overlap into Australian time zones.
Nice to Have
EdTech, education services, or a student-facing organisation in your background Experience moving a metric across a team or site you did not directly manage, by changing the process rather than by authority over people.
Lean, Six Sigma, or similar training. It is useful here, but we care that you have done the work, not which belt you hold
The Kind of People Who Thrive Here
The people who do well here see a gap and close it without being asked, holding the bar even when the clock is short. They give a direct read on the work in front of them, including when it's wrong, and when their own idea doesn't hold up, they say so and bring a better one. They build something that keeps running after they step back. Problems here don't show up on schedule or in the same shape twice, and they'd rather make the right call on limited information than let something break while they wait for a sign-off. That's the job. They name the blocker and the ask the moment they have it, on a call or a text, because decisions get made on the information you bring. Contour's current cluster heads started as team leads. The path from operator to leader is real here.
What Good Looks Like
Evidence-based baselines: Every project initiates with a documented, measured before-state rather than an estimate.
Sustainable outcomes: Processes are designed to run independently, requiring minimal ongoing support from you.
Transparent tracking: A live project scoreboard displays current status, performance metrics, and deadlines for all in-flight initiatives.
Margin optimization: You consistently reduce the cost-to-serve per student through process improvements that remain invisible to the student.
Benefits
Fully remote, anywhere in India. Compensation is competitive and benchmarked to the role and your experience, and we discuss it openly early in the process. From application to offer: a short screen, a practical process-improvement task, a culture conversation with our People team, and a final interview with the Business Operations Lead, in about four weeks.
Apply with a CV and one paragraph on a process you rebuilt hands-on: the before number, the after number, and who runs it now.
